We here at The New S.H.I.R.E Institute like to keep busy, and our favorite way to keep busy is by making stuff and doing things. We like to run experiments, try various ways of growing food, building structures, using energy, or cooking and fermenting. This is a space where we can share our experiences and results with you. Part of building a new sustainable future is creating new ways of doing things, but sometimes we just need to reexamine old (even lost) practices and methodologies. In the spirit of The New S.H.I.R.E Institute's mission of research and education, we want to share this sort of information with the public.

A eye facet to humanity's continued survival (in fact, continued thriving) on Earth is Habitat Restoration. This exciting aspect of the sustainability movement has wonderful insights into how we can help regenerate damaged ecosystems, but there's always more to learn. Planting native species (and eradicating non-native invasive species), using mushrooms to clean up petrochemicals and healing the soil through Permaculture are a few examples of what can be done to mitigate the damages already inflicted upon the environment. The New S.H.I.R.E Institute sees a real future in of Bioremediation.

The growing awareness of the significance of green spaces means a growing number of people are choosing to build in a way that considers their environment (perhaps not building at all!). Eco-Places com in many forms: ecologically minded businesses, homes, cooperatives, eco-villages, and wildlife refuges... The list could go on. This section aims to highlight this diversity of place in the examples profiled and discussed here.

The S.H.I.R.E Bus is The New S.H.I.R.E Institute's unofficial mascot and rolling outreach center. This (converted) biodiesel Bus came into our lives one balmy spring day in 2006. Since then, it's traveled Westward and all over that coast. Check in here on the where-abouts and wacky adventures of the The S.H.I.R.E Bus.

There are opportunities to green-up so many aspects of life, so why not start at home? Cleaning occurred before Clorox, so here's a space to share tips and tricks we've picked-up as we each green our homes (or apartments, or tree-houses, or bus...).
