Position: Chairmen of the Board, Founder, Blogger, Chief Editor, SHIRE designer What sustainability means to me. Sustainability has three aspects; ecological, economical and social. The ecological portion is my personal forte’. My main concern is that the human race will poison our planet so much that our species’ will be unable to survive. Life will go on regardless of how hard we try to stop it. The human race exists in a delicate balance. We must preserve the ecological integrity of our planet to ensure that future generations have a chance to cultivate a family. Why I am involved with the SHIRE I want to help create a future that enables people to live in a way that is harmonious and sustainable in every way. I grew up in Alaska in a subsistence lifestyle. We had little money so we grew veggies and fished in the summer. Our freezer was always full of fish and vegetables. When I came to the lower 48 for school, I realized that this style of life is not common place. After talking with many people I came to the conclusion that many people are unhappy with their current mode of mandatory jobs, required by the rat race of our culture. I helped start The New SHIRE institute, to help facilitate people moving toward a more sustainable and fulfilling way of life. What I offer. I graduated Hampshire collage with a degree in agricultural ecology engineering. I took this and went in to the landscaping and tree care business, where I apply permaculture techniques to create edible sustainable habitats in people’s backyards. I have worked in many aspects of the home building industry and understand much that goes into creating a dwelling. I have used this information evaluate sustainable projects around the USA.
