A SHIRE is an intentional community or ecovillage that is constantly teaching what it has learned to others so that sustainable knowledge is spread far and wide.


Sustainable habitat: An engineered ecosystem that produces food for people, animals, and nature in a way that nothing is a waste product. It looks to the wellbeing of all the children, of all creatures yet to be born. Our goal is to create an ecosystem that is better adapted than a naturally evolving system, while also providing food for its human caretakers. By introducing species that have evolved in similar climates, the ecosystem will be able to optimally adapt.

Renewable education: To maintain a sustainable habitat its caretakers have to keep re-evaluating everything involved within that habitat. Is this the best option available?  It is an education based on renewable energy, resources, and technologies. Taking a holistic approach to renewable education stimulates a dynamic learning environment.

Everything will be carried out so that it looks to the well being of all the children an all creatures yet to be born. The following is a list of the guiding purposes of this organization.

• The creation of living self sufficient sustainable educational communities, ecovillages, and habitats, or SHIRE's

• Instruction on how to create living self sufficient sustainable educational communities, ecovillages, and habitats

• Funding the creation of living self sufficient sustainable educational communities, ecovillages, and habitats, or SHIRE's

• Providing scholarships, to students who qualify to help the SHIRE's they attend pay for room, board, supplies and mentoring.

• Funding and researching of ecologically friendly, alternative housing and self sufficient sustainable, ecologically friendly gardening methods.

• Funding research in sufficient sustainable ecologically friendly gardening, housing, and the creation of self sufficient, sustainable educational communities, ecovillages, and habitats.

Our dream in creating the-shire.org is to create a sustainable future for humanity and the ecosystems in which we live. As the only beings on this planet who can change our environment on a large scale to better suit our needs, we have a responsibility to maintain and care for the world we are in charge of. Mankind must learn to not just live on this world, but with this world and not rely completely on a centralized system.
